TREK OVERVIEW & QUICK FACTS
About VALLEY OF FLOWERS TREK
The Valley of Flowers (3,658m) is a vibrant, living canvas of natural art and a UNESCO World Heritage Site hidden deep in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve of Uttarakhand. Discovered accidentally by British mountaineer Frank S. Smythe in 1931, this high-altitude valley erupts into a kaleidoscope of millions of wildflowers during the monsoon season.
The journey starts from Govindghat, following a well-paved trail alongside the rushing Pushpawati river to the bustling pilgrim settlement of Ghangaria. The air is crisp and filled with the scent of pine and wild herbs as waterfalls cascade down every surrounding cliff face.
Entering the Valley of Flowers feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Over 500 species of rare wildflowers—including the legendary Blue Poppy, Brahmakamal, Cobra Lily, and Himalayan Bellflower—blanket the valley floor in vibrant shades of blue, pink, yellow, and purple.
Trekkers can spend hours wandering along the gentle stone paths that crisscross the valley, surrounded by glistening snow-capped peaks and drifting mists that change the landscape's mood every few minutes. Rare wildlife like the Himalayan black bear and blue sheep also call this paradise home.
Often combined with a visit to the sacred Sikh pilgrimage shrine of Hemkund Sahib (4,329m), located beside a crystal-clear alpine lake, this trek is a spiritual and botanical journey unlike any other in the world.
