TREK OVERVIEW & QUICK FACTS
About KUARI PASS TREK
Kuari Pass (3,860m), famously known as the 'Lord Curzon Trail,' offers what many consider to be the finest and most expansive mountain views in the entire Indian Himalayas. Pioneered by the British Viceroy Lord Curzon in 1905, this historic trail takes trekkers on a magnificent journey right along the outer wall of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary.
The trek originates from the ski slope paradise of Auli or Joshimath, climbing rapidly through pristine forests of oak, deodar, and vibrant rhododendrons. As the trees part at campsites like Gorson Bugyal and Tali, trekkers are greeted by sweeping rolling meadows that drop off into deep river gorges below.
What sets Kuari Pass apart is its peerless mountain amphitheater. Trekkers walk alongside an unbroken wall of 6000m and 7000m titans—including India's second highest peak Nanda Devi (7,816m), Kamet, Dronagiri, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and the twin peaks of Hathi-Ghodi Parbat.
The summit climb to the pass is a steady, exhilarating trek up open grassy and snowy ridgelines. The crisp mountain air and the sheer visual scale of the surrounding Himalayas create a deeply inspiring atmosphere that fuels every step toward the top.
Reaching Kuari Pass opens up a gateway of windswept prayer flags looking out over Tibet and the Garhwal divide. It is an accessible yet profoundly rewarding trek that delivers a lifetime of postcard-perfect mountain memories in just a few short days.
