About KEDARKANTHA TREK

Kedarkantha (3,800m) is arguably India's most beloved and iconic winter summit trek. Located in the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park of Uttarakhand, this conical peak is renowned for its enchanting snowy pine forests, frozen lakes, and a thrilling summit climb that offers novice and experienced trekkers alike the thrill of a true Himalayan summit.

The trek begins from the charming wooden village of Sankri, ascending gently through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. In winter, these trails are transformed into a magical white wonderland where sunbeams filter through snow-laden branches, creating picturesque campsites at Juda Ka Talab.

As the trail climbs higher to Kedarkantha Base Camp, the tree line recedes, revealing sweeping views of snow-draped valleys under vast night skies. The anticipation builds as trekkers prepare their winter layers and headlamps for the pre-dawn summit assault.

The summit push begins in the pitch-black freezing hours of the morning. Walking on crisp, crunchy snow under the light of headlamps, trekkers navigate the steepening slope, feeling the adrenaline rise as the first golden rays of sunrise begin to illuminate the surrounding peaks.

Reaching the summit summit cairn just as the sun crests the horizon reveals a jaw-dropping 360-degree panorama. Towering giants like Swargarohini, Black Peak, Bandarpunch, and the Ranglana ranges stand bathed in alpenglow—a rewarding visual feast that makes every breathless step worth it.

TREK ITINERARY

Day 01

Drive Dehradun to Sankri Base Camp

1,950m / 6,400 ft.8-9 hours approx.Drive: 200 kmGuest House / HotelAvailable JIO / BSNL
Your winter wonderland expedition begins early morning at 6:00 AM from Dehradun railway station/airport, where your TrekOnClimb expedition leader will receive you outside the terminal. Boarding our reserved mountain transport, we begin a scenic 200 km road trip across western Garhwal up to our base village at Sankri (6,400 ft). The drive takes roughly 8 to 9 hours winding through pine-scented mountain valleys. The initial leg climbs switchbacks up to Mussoorie, presenting sprawling aerial views of the Dehradun valley below. Leaving Mussoorie behind, the road drops into the serene pine forests of Yamuna valley passing through settlements like Kempti Falls, Purola, and Mori. Along the route, we stop at a clean highway restaurant for a hot Garhwali lunch. Notice the transition in flora from subtropical pine to towering deodar trees as we gain elevation. From Mori onwards, the highway traces the turquoise waters of the Tons River through thick pine forests. We pass through the Naitwar checkpoint where permits are verified for entering Govind Pashu Vihar National Park. We arrive at Sankri by late afternoon. Check into our guest house, store extra luggage safely in our cloakroom, undergo TrekOnClimb medical pulse-oximeter assessments, attend evening briefing, and enjoy a hot evening dinner.
