TREK OVERVIEW & QUICK FACTS
About KEDARKANTHA TREK
Kedarkantha (3,800m) is arguably India's most beloved and iconic winter summit trek. Located in the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park of Uttarakhand, this conical peak is renowned for its enchanting snowy pine forests, frozen lakes, and a thrilling summit climb that offers novice and experienced trekkers alike the thrill of a true Himalayan summit.
The trek begins from the charming wooden village of Sankri, ascending gently through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. In winter, these trails are transformed into a magical white wonderland where sunbeams filter through snow-laden branches, creating picturesque campsites at Juda Ka Talab.
As the trail climbs higher to Kedarkantha Base Camp, the tree line recedes, revealing sweeping views of snow-draped valleys under vast night skies. The anticipation builds as trekkers prepare their winter layers and headlamps for the pre-dawn summit assault.
The summit push begins in the pitch-black freezing hours of the morning. Walking on crisp, crunchy snow under the light of headlamps, trekkers navigate the steepening slope, feeling the adrenaline rise as the first golden rays of sunrise begin to illuminate the surrounding peaks.
Reaching the summit summit cairn just as the sun crests the horizon reveals a jaw-dropping 360-degree panorama. Towering giants like Swargarohini, Black Peak, Bandarpunch, and the Ranglana ranges stand bathed in alpenglow—a rewarding visual feast that makes every breathless step worth it.
