TREK OVERVIEW & QUICK FACTS
About HAR KI DUN TREK
Har Ki Dun (3,566m), affectionately known as the 'Valley of Gods,' is one of the most ancient, picturesque, and culturally rich cradle-shaped valleys in the Garhwal Himalayas. Steeped in mythological legends from the Mahabharata, this hanging valley is where the Pandavas are believed to have lived during their exile before ascending to heaven.
The trek starts from Sankri and traces the crystal-clear waters of the Supin river through dense forests of chestnut, walnut, and weeping willows. The trail passes through architectural marvels like Osla and Taluka—remote villages where houses are intricately carved from cedar wood and ancient traditions thrive untouched by time.
Entering the main Har Ki Dun valley opens up a breathtaking alpine panorama. The valley floor is carpeted with wildflowers and alpine grass, flanked by rushing glacial streams and framed directly by the colossal, snow-draped western face of Swargarohini.
Camping in the valley allows trekkers to explore the surrounding wonders, including the pristine Jaundhar Glacier and the hidden alpine tarn of Maninda Tal. The gentle gradients make it an ideal choice for nature lovers seeking grand mountain scenery without extreme physical exertion.
Watching the morning sun illuminate the towering peaks while sipping warm tea by the riverbank creates a feeling of absolute peace. Har Ki Dun is a timeless Himalayan classic that perfectly blends adventure, mythology, and breathtaking natural beauty.
