About HAMPTA PASS TREK

Hampta Pass (4,270m) is one of the most dramatic and dramatic crossover treks in the Himalayas, offering an unbelievable contrast in landscapes over just a few days. Starting from the lush, green Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh, this trek crosses over a formidable mountain pass to emerge into the barren, surreal desert landscape of Lahaul and Spiti.

The trek originates near Manali, winding up through thick pine and maple forests into the gorgeous Jobra and Chika campsites. Trekkers walk alongside rushing crystal-clear rivers and cross rustic wooden bridges surrounded by cascading waterfalls and towering granite cliffs.

As the trail climbs towards Balu Ka Ghera, the greenery gives way to an alpine wonderland of snowfields, boulder moraines, and yellow mountain flowers. The dramatic vertical rock faces of Indrasan and Deo Tibba frame the valley, building excitement for the pass crossing.

The climb up to Hampta Pass is an exhilarating scramble up steep snow slopes and scree beds. Reaching the narrow pass summit offers an astonishing split-screen view: lush green valleys behind you, and the stark, sun-baked chocolate-brown mountains of Spiti stretching out in front of you.

The descent leads to the campsite of Shea Goru and concludes with a magical visit to the crescent-shaped turquoise lake of Chandratal (Moon Lake). Hampta Pass is an action-packed adventure that delivers unmatched landscape diversity.
