About CHOPTA CHANDRASHILA TREK

Chopta Chandrashila (4,000m) is an enchanting and spiritually elevating trek that leads to the highest Shiva temple in the world. Known as the 'Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand' due to its velvety green meadows and dense forest canopy, this trek is an accessible yet deeply rewarding Himalayan journey suitable for all adventure seekers.

The trek commences from the picturesque campsite of Chopta, winding up through pristine forests of rhododendron, deodar, and alpine oak. During spring, the entire hillside blazes with crimson flowers, creating a dreamlike pathway through the mountains.

A well-paved stone trail ascends gently to Tungnath (3,680m), the ancient 1000-year-old stone temple dedicated to Lord Shiva's arms. Surrounded by dramatic rock cliffs and mystical mountain fog, visiting this sacred sanctuary offers a moment of deep spiritual reflection.

From Tungnath, a steep 1-hour climb up a zigzagging dirt trail leads to the Chandrashila summit ('Moon Rock'). According to legend, this is the very spot where Lord Rama meditated after defeating Ravana, adding profound historical weight to the ascent.

Standing atop Chandrashila reveals a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of India's greatest peaks—including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Dome, Chaukhamba, and Bandarpunch. It is a short, magical trek that packs maximum cultural and visual impact into a weekend adventure.
