TREK OVERVIEW & QUICK FACTS
About BALI PASS TREK
Bali Pass (4,950m) is a thrilling and rugged high-altitude crossover trek that connects the historic Har Ki Dun valley with the sacred shrine of Yamunotri. Reaching nearly 5,000 meters, this trek bridges the gap between classic trekking and technical mountaineering, offering steep ascents, narrow ridges, and breathtaking glacial vistas.
Starting from Sankri, the route follows the classic Supin river valley through ancient villages like Gangad and Osla before taking a dramatic turn into the ruinsara basin. The landscape rapidly shifts from lush greenery to the raw, rugged alpine terrain surrounding the crystal-clear waters of Ruinsara Tal.
Above Ruinsara, the trek becomes an intense physical challenge. Trekkers must cross boulder-strewn moraines and icy snowfields to establish Odari camp—named after a natural rock cave where legendary sages once meditated beneath the towering walls of Swargarohini.
The climb to Bali Pass is an adrenaline-pumping ascent up a steep 60-degree snow and scree slope. Trekkers must use microspikes and trekking poles, carefully kicking steps into the snow while breathing the thin, icy air near the 5,000-meter mark.
Standing atop the narrow, knife-edge saddle of Bali Pass offers a heart-stopping view of the Bandar Punch peaks and the dramatic vertical drop into the Yamunotri valley below. The technical sliding descent down the snowfields makes this one of the most adventurous trekking expeditions in India.
Technical Rigor & Safety
Challenging to difficult trekking rigor. Requires navigating steep 60-degree snow/ice slopes, narrow exposed mountain passes, and tricky scree descents.
Led by certified mountaineering instructors equipped with medical oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, high-altitude first aid kits, and emergency mountain communication gear.
