TREK OVERVIEW & QUICK FACTS
About SATOPANTH EXPEDITION
Mt. Satopanth (7,075m / 23,212 ft) is the second highest peak in the Gangotri National Park after Choukhamba and one of the most formidable technical 7000m summits in the Garhwal Himalayas. Recognized globally as the ultimate preparatory expedition for Mount Everest and other 8000m technical giants, Satopanth requires advanced alpine climbing skills, endurance, and ice-craft.
The expedition begins at Gangotri, tracing the sacred Bhagirathi River past Gaumukh to establish Base Camp (4,463m) at the pristine meadow of Vasuki Tal near the Vasuki Glacier. From here, climbers step into an unforgiving vertical realm dominated by towering seracs, complex crevasses, and sheer ice walls.
Climbing Mt. Satopanth involves negotiating a technical knife-edge ridge and steep 60-degree ice slopes. Teams establish Camp 1 (5,200m) on moraine and Camp 2 (5,800m) on the hanging glacier before setting up Summit Camp (6,300m) on the exposed technical shoulder.
The summit push is a grueling high-altitude test under sub-zero midnight temperatures (-25°C to -35°C). Reaching the 7,075m summit rewards climbers with breathtaking 360-degree panoramas of the Garhwal giants including Thalay Sagar, Shivling, Bhagirathi massifs, and Chaukhamba.
Undertaking Mt. Satopanth Peak is a true mountaineering milestone—a pure test of technical prowess, grit, and alpine mastery.
